NemID is your digital signature, which gives you access to public and private sites on the internet. The Danish government's digitalization strategy increasingly requires citizens to use digital self-service options. To use these self-service options, you must have a NemID. Digital Post
Digital Post is another one of the many required self-service actions. Digital Post allows you to receive all of your letters from public authorities and correspond with the authorities quickly and securely. E-boks is a secure electronic mailbox where you can receive and store the documents you normally receive by post. For example, all of your bank statements, tax documents, and pension documents can be securely stored online in one place. You can also use E-boks to save your birth certificate, marriage certificate, and other important documents. You can read more about it at

The Danish government is rolling out digitalization in waves through 2015. Part of the strategy involves phasing out paper forms and letters, introducing digital welfare, and providing solutions for closer public sector cooperation. You can read the full eGovernment strategy here.
